ERA attachments: an overview

I will give an overview of the ERA attachment system . (source: Clinical and laboratory Manual of Implant Overdentures, Hamid R. Shafie)

ERA attachments are a type of stud attachments used to aid the retention and resiliency of dentures. There are two components: the female fixed component which attaches to the implant itself and the male component which is embedded in the denture acrylic.

The female component comes in various cuff heights: 2 mm, 3 mm and 5 mm.

The male components are color coded in order of their retentiveness: from least retentive to most retentive they are: white, orange, blue, grey, yellow and red.

The male components are divided into one piece, and two piece. The two piece, which can have an inclination of 5 degrees, 11 degrees or 17 degrees ,are used to achieve parallelism between the attachments and to ensure a proper path of insertion for the overdenture.
